Big 4 IT companies may hire 91,000 freshers for 2021-22

BENGALURU: With the sharp pickup in demand after the lockdown lows, Indian IT firms have lined up robust hiring plans for 2021-22. The top four IT firms — TCS, Infosys, HCL Technologies and Wipro — collectively plan to hire 91,000 from campuses, a little higher than last year.
Most of the ongoing financial year's campus hiring would have been concluded before businesses were hit by the pandemic. Companies generally have honoured those offers, though some with a lag.
TCS executive VP and global HR head Milind Lakkad said in recent media interactions that the company expects to hire the same number of freshers for the next year as it did this year (about 40,000).

Infosys said it will hire 24,000 college graduates in India in the next financial year, up from the 15,000 that it had planned for current one.
HCL Technologies chief HR officer Apparao V V said there are multiple reasons why the hiring momentum is picking up.
"We are doing 33% more than what we had targeted and we see a fair bit of acceleration in Q3 and Q4. The visa environment, compensation revisions and countries looking inward have put a cap in terms of the talent available in those countries. If customers scale up their engagement, they have to go where the skills are. Last year, 70% of our increase in manpower was in India and 30% outside India. This year, it was almost 90%-10%. We see huge ramp-ups in India," he said. HCL plans to hire 15,000 freshers in India and 1,500-2,000 people on-site in the 2022-ending fiscal.
James Friedman of Susquehanna Financial Group (SFG) said demand is generally infrastructure-related. That's where the "big deals" are, often with some digital wrapper, he said. "India mindshare seems once again on the rise," he said.
Infosys won the largest deal ever in its history from German automotive major Daimler that sources said is estimated at $3.2 billion. TCS won a large deal from Prudential Financial. Wipro signed a big one with German retailer Metro.
Wipro expects a talent war to unfold in the next few months in the IT sector as companies have stepped up hiring in the last two quarters. "It is all about the demand. The way we have been hiring in the last few months...more demand means more opportunities," chief HR officer Saurabh Govil said.
London-based IT advisory Omdia's principal analyst Hansa Iyengar said enterprises are accelerating digital agendas and investments as the world looks at a post-pandemic recovery. "Campus recruitment is a good tool to bolster digital portfolios and delivery," she said.

Manufacturing / How Tata made Nexon EV a succe...
Last post by Subbulakshmi - December 31, 2020, 02:53:33 PM
In one month, Tata Motors will be celebrating the first anniversary of the launch of its electric compact SUV Nexon in the Indian market. The journey of this 'Made in India' electric car will go down as one of the successful stories of Covid-19-battered 2020.
Tata Nexon EV, formally introduced on January 28, 2020, has defied market trends with strong growth in sales despite the non-availability of what the industry called a major EV adoption segment — the fleet, which was crippled by the pandemic.
Covid-19 and the resultant lockdown slammed the brakes on the evolving EV ecosystem, particularly the development of charging infrastructure. All key growth segments — public transport, mobility in cities and the fleet segment — were impacted.
But Tata's Nexon EV managed to crack the market and a good number of people bought it amid the slowdown in the market.
Breaking barriers
Despite losing the first quarter due to the lockdown, the industry has sold about 3,000 electric cars (2,959 units precisely) during the April-November 2020 period. This is without the fleet segment, which reported 80-85 per cent decline as it was underutilised. So, the entire growth was driven by the personal segment, which was perceived as a slower adopter due to some barriers. Of the 2,959 units sold, 2,800 came from the personal segment, an increase of 2.5 times over the previous year (a low base period).
The impressive part of the story is that of the total sales of 2,959 units, the Nexon EV accounted for 2,086 units (2,200 units since the launch) — about 70 per cent of the total industry sales and 4-4.5 times growth for Tata's EV sales (it started selling Tigor EV before Nexon). Thus, the entire growth of electric car industry has been driven by Nexon EV. Without it, the industry would have declined by 15-20 per cent. Also, the Nexon EV has surpassed the cumulative sales of any EVs in the past.
"A smart strategy with a clear focus on breaking the key EV barriers and partnerships with group companies such as Tata Power, Tata Chemicals, Tata AutoComp Systems, and Tata Capital for establishing the EV ecosystem, has paid dividends for the company," says Shailesh Chandra, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors.
Tata Motors took thea bold decision of entering personal segment when all pointers were directing towards fleet for growth. "We felt that since 85-90 per cent of industry sales come from the personal segment, we opted to conceive an EV for that segment," he adds.
Attracting users
A consumer survey during the conceptual stage revealed that the company should overcome three major barriers to make its EVs attractive. First, electric cars are priced 2-2.5 times higher; and the message was that its EVs should not be priced more than 20-25 per cent ofas compared to conventional cars. Second, the clear answer for range concerns was that buyers will not show interest if the range was less than 200 km. Third, EVs did not provide a thrill while driving.
"We took these boundary conditions and designed the Nexon EV to bust all the key myths, and it was done within just 14-16 months. We brought a vehicle that was tailor-made to the needs of the customers," says Chandra.
The Nexon EV is just ₹1-1.5 lakh more expensive than the Nexon diesel AMT. In fact, in Delhi, the Nexon EV is cheaper than the diesel AMT variant due to the incentives offered by the governments.
"Of course, the Nexon model itself is stylish and the safest car with the highest rating. Combinations all these factors helped change buyer perception about EVs. Today, if anyone is planning to by a car in ₹10-15 lakh range in big cities, he/she will definitely consider Nexon EV," points out Chandra.

IT & ITES / Building Automation Systems He...
Last post by Mohdmunna - December 29, 2020, 12:05:50 PM
Follow these considerations when selecting building automation systems.
Keeping patients, visitors, and staff comfortable while reducing energy costs is a goal that most healthcare executives want to achieve. Building automation systems (BAS) control every aspect of the HVAC system so the benefits from well programed building automation systems ultimately ensure operational performance which in turn can achieve these goals.

Known as the primary backbone for energy savings in a hospital, choosing the right building automation systems can be a daunting task.

Unfortunately, this system is the least understood and yet one of the most expensive systems in a hospital. And, as technology continues to advance, we are seeing more systems become integrated into building automation systems. This includes systems such as fire alarm, power monitoring, lighting control, and security.

One of the many issues in healthcare is that many executives are directing engineers to make multi-million dollar decisions on which manufacturer's building automation system to use in their hospitals without fully understanding that these decisions will have long-term impacts and ramifications on almost every aspect of facility operations and maintenance. The building automation systems control almost all a hospital's critical utility systems, and with over 50 percent of the facility manager's budget invested in energy, the building automation systems should be one of the engineer's primary focuses. Making a decision based on second-hand experience, manufacture sales pitches or un-vetted third-party recommendations is dangerous. To ensure this decision is not taken lightly and a system that works best for your facility is selected, below we have highlighted four critical considerations when selecting building automation systems.

4 Critical Considerations
1. Ease of Use
Nothing slows a facilities department down like a clunky system that is not easy to use, ultimately impacting the efficiency of work and the overall patient experience. HVAC and facility technicians already have multiple priorities when maintaining a hospital. By ensuring a user-friendly interface with dashboards, easy-to-read graphics, and logical drill down screens, the time to monitor, evaluate, adjust, and troubleshoot daily operations will be minimized and staff can depend on the building automation systems to help resolve issues quickly.

Important factors such as detailed, specific control drawings and sequences of operations must be considered during the early stages of the design process of building automation systems. The end goal is a detailed and customized set of future-proof specifications for the facility.

2. Needs Assessment
Determining the nuances of the current HVAC system in your facility and identifying the needs at the local site are the first step in determining what building automation systems will be most beneficial for your healthcare organization. One way to achieve this is to make a comprehensive inventory of the existing system. A way to start is by asking your teams to answer a series of basic questions about the current building automation systems in place:

What works?
How well does it work?
What flat out doesn't work?
What is still being supported?
What parts of the system will work with an upgraded system?
What will not work with an upgraded system?
After you have completed that step, speak directly with building automation systems users within your facility who represent different perspectives (e.g. HVAC operators, field technicians, etc.). Gaining insights from these critical users will help to determine what attributes they consider necessary for the building automation systems. Once all this information is collected, compile it with the inventory list—the data from these activities will help you create a prioritized plan.

3. Energy Savings
Healthcare executives across the nation are feeling the pressure to reduce energy usage. Building automation systems are essential for generating energy savings throughout a facility and it can be used to implement programing and monitor equipment to ensure energy is not being wasted. Implementing occupied and unoccupied schedules for areas like offices or classrooms is an economical way to save energy.

In addition to implementing control sequences, building automation systems are a valuable tool for equipment monitoring. For example, chillers have the potential to be huge energy wasters. Using building automation systems trending function can help facility managers quickly spot problems like frequent starts and stops. Properly designed building automation systems can also provide the facility manager with daily electric and natural gas consumption trending that supports best practice, energy-saving strategies.

4. Regulatory Compliance
Compliance remains a crucial component of every decision for a healthcare executive. The building automation systems you use must maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements. Key requirements are temperature, humidity, space pressures, and air changes. Well-designed building automation systems can facilitate compliance issues by sending immediate alerts, displaying informative graphics and critical environmental conditions. It also ensures that all these elements are trended and documented.

When properly displayed and trended, troubleshooting is simplified for critical environments with high occupancy. Building automation systems should also ensure accountability within your facility by alerting personnel when temperature, humidity, or pressure readings are outside of the acceptable ranges. This helps the facilities staff to quickly identify issues and bring the building back into compliance.

Impact on Healthcare Facility
To say the least, the selection of building automation systems have major impacts on patient experience as well as financial, compliance, and energy usage factors within a healthcare organization.

Most healthcare facilities are not a static building that remains unchanged from the day it was built. It's important to have a carefully crafted plan to ensure the key factors of the system are considered.

Most importantly, the reward of having comfortable patients and staff, a streamlined maintenance program and energy savings will far outweigh the grueling process of finding the right building automation systems.

IT & ITES / How to Automate Technology to ...
Last post by Mohdmunna - December 21, 2020, 08:05:39 PM
We all could use a little extra help when it comes to running our businesses. Whether you have a personal assistant, a virtual assistant or simply Google Assistant (still a contender), it can at times feel like a juggling ploy to keep up with all the moving pieces. Enter additional responsibilities and passion projects (such as speaking gigs, writing opportunities or launching new initiatives), and the pieces move faster and demand more attention, decreasing our productivity and contributing to our overall stress levels.

What ends up happening is that potential leads and opportunities can slip through the cracks. How many times have you forgotten to respond to a potential client because they messaged you on Facebook, where you had 347 other unopened messages? Or, how many hours have you had to log into your weekly calendar to respond to emails?

Thankfully, we have technology that can help us. I'm in the business of investing time up front to automate said technology to work for me moving forward, so I don't have to continue to commit chunks of my weekly schedule to run operations or delegating and then overseeing those delegations. It also helps that automation can eliminate a margin of human error, as reported by Towards Data Science. If you've ever been curious about how automated technology can play a role in your productivity, regardless of what type of business you run, here's how to get started and test it out for yourself.
