Manufacturing / Foxconn hitches bumpy ride wit...
Last post by Subbulakshmi - November 12, 2020, 11:06:17 AM
Foxconn is hitching a bumpy ride with electric vehicles. The $39 billion iPhone-assembler, formally known as Hon Hai Precision Industry, wants to diversify by supplying parts for 10% of the world's green cars by 2027. It's an ambitious and risky goal, but the Taiwanese technology giant's electronics expertise and deep pockets put it in a strong starting position.

A recent emphasis on autos is Foxconn's latest attempt to reduce dependence on Apple, which accounts for about half its revenue. Broadly speaking, contract-manufacturing for electronics is a low-value business: Foxconn's net profit margin has been shrinking for years, to nearly 2%. Moreover, the situation has become more precarious as rivals such as China's Luxshare vie for Apple's attention.
In a presentation last month, Foxconn's chief technology officer unveiled a plan to be the "Android of EVs", referring to Google's mobile operating software that runs the majority of the world's handsets.

The idea would be for billionaire Terry Gou's company to provide fundamental designs for carmakers, from batteries to the chassis, as well as technology that can connect vehicles and apps with one another. That looks a stretch, though: Samsung Electronics and others have long tried and failed to make the leap into software.

Still, Foxconn can play to its manufacturing prowess. Churning out auto parts, like touch screens, plays to its strengths. Existing facilities can easily be reconfigured for little extra cost, according to analysts at Taiwan's KGI. Over the longer term, the company may even be able to pivot to higher-value components, including batteries.

For now, a strong balance sheet with $6.7 billion of net cash means experiments and expansion are affordable. Profitability might improve too: Aptiv, which provides electronics and components for connected cars, generates a net margin almost triple Foxconn's.

And while it is notoriously difficult to break into the "Tier 1" of suppliers that sell directly to carmakers, Foxconn is making inroads. It is working with Fiat Chrysler and Taiwan's local leader Yulon Motor, as well as selling small parts to U.S. and European manufacturers. Foxconn's electric vehicles push should pick up speed soon.

In the Service Industry, one too many have spoken about "Trust" in the lines of "Building Trust with your Client" to be successful.
Another concept right out of the Vault is "Customer is God" and "Customer is always Right even when Wrong".
Now, this is all Good, and we understand, it is with the best of intentions. But it is important not to Blindly give into these cliché Quotes.

In the present day, a good crop of Millennials think differently, ask more questions & are not afraid to take stands.
With Time, things have taken a different turn and with that Perceptions & Ideologies of people have changed too, for the better.

Be it the "Client" or the "Service Provider", it is made up of "Human beings", who come with their unique - Thought process, emotions, perceived perceptions, expectations, engagement styles, stressors, energizers, motivators.
While there can be a bunch of "Success stories" along the way, we must know that either of the parties are not immune to "Mistakes".
And, many a time it happens because people "Assume" and "Don't ask the Right Questions".
On a lighter note, we all know the meaning of "Assume".

And that is the reason why people who interact with External Stakeholders whom i would like to refer to as the "Torch bearers" should not limit themselves to "Transactions" but to think & act outside of it as-well. I am referring to the Important concept of "Stakeholder Engagement". Research shows that an effective "Stakeholder Engagement" strategy (much like "Candidate Engagement") can alone account for 15 to 20% additional Revenue to the Organization and that is being conservative.

There is a need to Flip the Thought process a wee bit from the Legacy way. It is important to effectively deal and handle the "Hiring Managers" within the boundaries and limitations. The relationship with Hiring Managers is one of the most critical factors affecting the success of an organization's Talent Acquisition efforts apart from the Productivity and Quality of work done by recruiters. Both factors are equally important.

"It is important to get into the Skin of the Requirement Specifications and to also understand the finer aspects that are not explicitly mentioned in Job Description. Added to this, a little bit of Research coupled with a well formulated Search criteria will go a long way towards Quickly identifying and zoom in directly to the Ideal Talent pool base without further adieu".

The "Torch Bearers" need to make a deposit in the 'relationship piggy bank' especially with the difficult Hiring Managers, where we have to go a little farther "to get them to see the world through our eyes" and "also use those moments to see the world through their eyes as well". It's easy to complain about the hiring managers who are difficult, but they are also complaining that their Recruiting Partners just doesn't get it. Therefore. this is a great opportunity to bridge that gap and important to realize that the engagement is much more than "Transactions".

AI ML & Automation is the future of Recruitment. Though, not all aspects of Recruitment can be Automated, the mundane and repeated tasks don't need Human intervention. What the Machines cannot replace (at least for now) is the Human Brain. Having said that, it is high time that people Up-Skill their knowledge and learn new ways of doing things which would save Time, Cost, increase Productivity and Revenue. It is important for any Working Professional these days to be a little Tech Savvy to set them apart from the Masses.

Because if we don't up-skill our capabilities we will soon become, Dinosaurs.

Long Story short ...

Focus on Building your Brand, whether it is your Individual Brand or a Company Brand.
You can do that without much fuss, if your capability stands out in a Crowd, which results in immediate Gratification & Market Competitive advantage so much so that you create an Unfair Market Monopoly & a Disruptive Edge over your Competitors. All you need is a little of "Selling", "Word of Mouth", Social Media Digital Marketing to advance your Business Reach to the Next level as the rest speaks for the work that you have done.

There is a Mediating effect between "Client Satisfaction", our "Relationship with them", our "Service Level Performance" which is directly proportional to our "Brand loyalty" in the minds of our Clients.

A company can create, build and effectively manage its "Brand Loyalty" through "Customer Satisfaction" and by increasing "Product/Service level performance". Social Media plays a big role in spreading the word once you have a certain amount of recognition.

As Richard Branson famously said -
"Train people well enough so they can leave, treat them well enough so they don't want to".

To create one of the Most Talented Niche Brands, we must believe in the idea of enriching the knowledge base of Employees and to Transform the Institution to become a place of Better Value for both, Core Employees & our Customers. This enables Employees to be Future ready to be able to do greater things in this era of a Virtual Workplace. This form of giving, sharing, will come back to us one day, in some form or the other. And when it does, it is hugely satisfying to be remembered for a Noble cause, or for an act of making an uplifting difference, in people's professional careers rather than being known as a Ring Master or a Postman of sorts and being forgotten once your Tribe's fortunes change for the better.

Though Revenue & Client Satisfaction are the Top Business Outcomes which any Firm would aspire for, "Organizations, instead of directly focusing on working really hard to Serving their Clients well and making sure that we are in their Good Books" need to have a closer sneak peak into the Factors that determine them, the People, re-visit strategies, process alignments, etc.,

"Organizations are better off looking inwardly and focusing on their Employees, nurture their Job skills, enrich their knowledge base and provide them with the necessary Ammunition, Basic Motivation and Drive, that they need whilst giving them the opportunity and space to perform at the peak of their capabilities at all times".

Revenue Generation, Per Person Productivity, Client Satisfaction and Business Profitability are all Organic By Products, which by default will be taken care off, more often than not, if the aforesaid is practiced.

There is an African saying - "They are, because we are".

Simply put - "There will be Organic Brand Identity in the eyes of our Clients", if there is "Employer Brand Loyalty strongly embedded in the Employees of the Organization that is providing the Services".

Because, "Real Brand Loyalty always stems from within the Organization before it can branch out and touch the lives of External Stakeholders or Clients".

Covid has come to stay like any other virus earlier. But human beings adapt better than most other species to such drastic changes.

Over the next few months, our species will go through several adaptations to ensure that life and living runs smoothly. New Trends are already emerging, new fashions are being seen, new laws are in effect.

Soon, we will find safer norms to travel, to socialize. The Tourism/Travel industry has already suffered in immensity and are researching solutions that will be applicable even if a vaccine is successfully found.

Of course, it becomes essential that we take precautions like how you and your friends have done and keep moving forward.

Open Discussions / Holiday amidst the pandemic......
Last post by Deepak_DS - November 05, 2020, 05:16:33 PM
Months of lockdown and self isolations with addition of work related stress was driving me nuts and literally draining me out. Covid19 seems here to stay, at least until the vaccines arrive. We all might have made several plans which had to be cancelled with a heavy heart and disappointment. I needed a break badly but where could I go? The cases in Bangalore were rising by day and there was a surge in the whole of South India. Mounting work pressure, financial stress and lack of success was adding up to my frustrations. I had to do something about it before i crumble to these heavyweights.

Then few of my friends were planning a short trip and zeroed in on Goa as it was the only destination which was safe to travel. They managed to convince me and roped me in their plan. We anyways had a long weekend and an upcoming holiday on the occasion of Dushera. Hence the plan was made, travel and hotel bookings were decided and thus started the much awaited holiday trip to my favorite destination - Goa. (PS: Goa is like a second home to me and i have visited the place for 18 times before and this was the 19th trip).

We started on Friday night, got into the bus and before occupying our berths (it was a sleeper bus), we sprayed a surface disinfectant all over, wiped the handles, windows, put our own sheets and avoided contact with other fellow passengers. The journey was overall peaceful except for the bumpy ride in Ghat section just before Karwar. I was literally flung above the berth and narrowly missed hitting my head :P. Anyways we reached Panjim the next day morning around 8 and made our way to Calangute in North Goa which was where we had booked our resort in a hired cab. Again we sprayed the disinfectant in the cab seats before sitting and reached the resort in roughly 20 mins. The resort was just 5 mins walkable distance from the beach and which is why we chose this one. Once inside the resort, we were checked for temperature and other symptoms, were asked to wear mask all the time and they sprayed disinfectants on our luggage before guiding us to our rooms which was already sanitized and safe to occupy.

Thereafter everywhere we went, we ensured to maintain social distancing from the rest of the crowd, always wore masks, carried our own sanitizers and kept to ourselves, while enjoying the sprawling beauty of the sun, sea and sand. We spent 3 days and 2 nights and continued following the Covid rules. Even while enjoying to the core, safety was our first priority. It was sad, the holiday lasted only for couple of days, however I was grateful that I could get this opportunity to take the much deserved and awaited break.

When we arrived back in Bangalore, as soon as we got down the bus, there were a team of BBMP workers who were enforcing the RT PCR test for all passengers. We took it as a blessing and the swab was collected from the nose and throat and were told results to be declared in 24 hours which was not the case. We finally received the result after 72 hours and were informed test was negative.

Lessons learnt: It should be a practice to maintain hygiene and safe practices to be healthy and safe. Had we not followed and abided strictly by these, I am sure the holiday would have been a curse. But here I am, rejuvenated and excited for the new phase...Holiday amidst the pandemic is safe and safety is in your hands!!!

Agriculture is the backbone of the Indian #Economy. #Agriculture employs about 50% of the Indian population and contributes 17-18% to the country's #GDP. Yet, are we doing enough to optimize and strengthen this sector? Are we doing enough to improve the yield in agriculture?

Tons of valuable produce is lost due to unfavourable environmental conditions. How do we leverage technology for a better yield in farming? How do we stitch together data to impact farmer lives? We at LTTS are #EngineeringTheChange - ONE CROP AT A TIME.

Our engineers have designed and developed a vision based smart farming solution to achieve higher yield and detect diseases in tomato plantation. The solution also uses deep learning optimize parameters such as humidity, CO2, and temperature for better yield. Smart solutions for next-gen agriculture are here.
